Qatar Rail holds staff meeting to discuss strategic direction

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) held a town hall meeting with its staff in October where the Leadership team discussed the company’s corporate strategy, performance targets and a wide range of strategic initiatives it plans to undertake over the next 18 months. The meeting, held at La Cigale Hotel was attended by all Qatar Rail employees.

Opening the town hall meeting, Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Qatar Rail said “Since its inception, Qatar Rail has focused on achieving an ambitious vision of delivering an extremely large and complex rail program that had taken other nations many decades to achieve. We know that this is not a low-risk strategy, however we have been blessed with the resources that allow us to undertake a program of this scale as part of our national vision 2030 and to set high objectives for ourselves”.

According to Eng. Al Subaie, Qatar Rail would provide benefits to the community that include providing safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly alternative means of transportation; savings in travel time; reduced congestion and road traffic; fewer traffic accidents; affordability for passengers; reduced pollution; better connectivity within Qatar and between neighboring countries; and more business and employment opportunities.

Mr. Al Subaie added the importance of stakeholder communication and awareness to ultimately achieve the company’s vision “to be the favored mode of transport for all”. He said: “We will launch intensive awareness campaigns to promote the use of the rail network and encourage people to use the metro as part of their everyday lives”.

The Managing Director also outlined a series of corporate KPI’s for Qatar Rail, indicating that the company would not spare any effort to ensure timely delivery and efficient implementation of the rail network.  “We will achieve our goals through implementing effective project controls and governance, strong performance management, efficient and effective asset life cycle management and a discipline that promote organization-wide culture of commitment and accountability”, said Mr. Al Subaie.

Qatar Rail is equipped with strategies to ensure that the Doha metro project sees a smooth progress towards its execution. The works are advancing as planned to achieve the target date for starting the first phase of Doha metro that involves three lines - Red, Green and Gold – running by October 2019.
Qatar Rail’s corporate strategy rests on four corner stones which are Sustainability, Customer Focus, Operational Excellence and Performance Driven Culture. The company has formulated a set of strategic initiatives aligned around each of these corner stones and execution of these initiatives will be the core component of company’s 2015 business plan.
